Information about the Hall

The Hall was built on its present site in 1971 with proceeds from the sale of the Collin's Hall, Wellow (£978), a grant from the Ministry of Education (£3000) and Bathavon R.D.C. (£147) together with substantial village fund raising (£1436) and cost in its day approximately £5400 to build and equip. The land on which the Hall is situated, together with use of the driveway by which it is accessed, was generously donated to Wellow Parish Council by the late Commander Christopher Hall. The Hall was further extended in 1976 by the addition of an annexe for storage, the cost of which amounted to £1775.

The Hall is run by the Wellow Village Hall Management Committee which is made up of a elected members and/or appointed representatives of the various groups and societies within the community of Wellow. The current committee is made up of the following members:

Committee Members
Mr. Brian Messer - Chairperson
Ms. Marian Osborne - Secretary
Mr. Andrew Clark - Treasurer
Mrs. Shirley Betts - Parish Council representative
Mrs. Pam Brigden
Mrs. Mary Messer
Mrs. Stephanie Wheeler
Mrs. Joyce Mannings
Mr. Charles Kerr
Mr. Andrew Howe
Mr. Les Venton

The Committee generally meets on the second Monday in each month at 8pm in the Hall. Members of the public are always welcome. The meeting agenda will cover matters such as hirings for approval, fund raising and social events, safety issues and general matters pertaining to the running of the village hall together with the monthly draw for the 150 Club.

The 150 Club was started in 1987 as a means of raising regular income for the village hall through a monthly lottery. Subscribers to the Club contribute £12 per year/£1 per month where 50% of any contributions are distributed back to the subscribers in a monthly prize draw. The remainder is allocated to the funds of the village hall to help towards the running cost/future plans. At present this raises some £825 per annum for the hall. If you are not already a member and would like to join this worthwhile village cause please contact our treasurer Mr. Richard Holland on telephone 01225 833348 or e-mail him at Richard@cromwellow.freeserve.co.uk

The hall also receives a precept from the Parish Council in the sum of £1650 per annum payable in June and December each year, subject to annual review.

The Village Hall Committee endeavours to provide a well maintained community facility for the benefit of all within the Parish of Wellow and its wider environs. With this in mind, in 1996, we applied for a National Lottery Charities Grant to refurbish, renovate and extend the hall to bring it up to modern standards with accessibility for all. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful on this occassion.
