Cam Valley Wildlife Group

Cam Valley Wildlife Logo

Founded 1994

The aims are biodiversity conservation & raising awareness / promoting education & enjoyment of wildlife.

The Groups area is based around Midsomer Norton & Radstock but covers the area from Chewton Mendip in the west to Midford in the east, along both the Cam and Wellow Valleys on both sides of the B&NES/Mendip boundary.

Membership is currently 100+ households (200 people or so) - but very keen to attract new members from throughout our area - We hope that anyone in Wellow with an interest in wildlife who sees our entry on the site will feel like joining. £5 per household per year - excellent value for money

A Newsletter is produced 4 times a year in February, May, August and November and sent to all members free - aims are to update people on the group's actviities and to educate & inform about local wildlife & conservation issues.

Active in site-based conservation - managing several sites - advising on management at several others - campaigning when important sites are threatened

Wildlife recording - several projects, aimed at building up detailed picture of what wildlife we have in the area - flora, insects, bats, owls so far - more to come hopefully.

Species-conservation projects - Several species-based conservation projects for the rarest & most threatened species in our area.

Activities for members - with lots of events - 4 talks a year held at Centurion Hotel in Midsomer Norton, wildlife walks with either general or specific themes, survey days, events for beginners, social events.
